FUNCTIONAL HORTON with Debbie Wilson on Wed, Oct 14th

THE CLASS

A functional approach to Horton technique that allows participants to recognize and explore the idiosyncrasies of their own body makeup, recognizing their physical uniqueness (bone structure and bone mobility) and then to apply that knowledge to their movement.

ABOUT DEBBIE

Since 2009, Debbie Wilson has been focusing on deconstructing alignment-based techniques to their functional elements which allows a greater range of body types to safely tackle these physical forms. She began her professional dance career at the age of 12 with the Cincinnati Ballet Company, where she became a soloist and one of the company’s rehearsal assistants. She continued her career, working in companies and with independent choreographers across Canada and the USA.  As a choreographer, she created many critically acclaimed productions including Homo Office Sapiensis, which received a 2002 Dora Mavor Moore nomination for Outstanding New Choreography.

Class objectives:

The objective with these classes is to make the technique fit the student and NOT fit the student’s body to the technique.  By taking a functional approach, I help students to recognize and explore the idiosyncrasies of their own body makeup, recognizing their physical uniqueness (bone structure and bone mobility) and then to apply that knowledge to movement.  With that knowledge, students can make informed and healthy choices on how to make the techniques work for them and to create stronger dancers and performers.
