L’antoinette Stines – DAAANCING IN PATOIX: From Kumina to L’Antech

Experience the vibrant dance heritage of Jamaica in L’Antech class with L’Antoinette!

This immersive journey will take you through Jamaica’s rich dance history, starting with the Congolese roots of Kumina and tracing the evolution and revolution (evo-revo) of the predominantly Jamaican technique, L’Antech, within the Anglo-Caribbean context.

You’ll explore:

  • Kumina: Experience the powerful Congolese traditions.
  • Bruckins: Celebrate the historical significance of the Abolition of slavery through dance.
  • Bingi: Feel the energetic rhythms and unique aesthetics of Rastafari.
  • Daaance’all: Immerse yourself in contemporary Jamaican dance expressions.
  • L’Antech: Discover this innovative technique that embraces the diverse cultural influences – European, African, and Asian – that have shaped Jamaica. L’Antech is a technical approach that trains the body to achieve proficiency by connecting with ancestral movement memories. Essentially, L’ANTECH IS DANCING IN PATOIS.

This intensive will culminate in a performance featuring choreography developed during the class.
