Kevin A. Ormsby

Dancer, choreographer, arts marketing consultant and is an adjunct artist with Dance Exchange (Washington D.C). He has performed with various companies and projects in Jamaica, Canada and the United States and was a company member of Garth Fagan Dance (NY), the Assistant to the Artistic Director and Marketing / Outreach for Ballet Creole, and performed in works by Marie Josee Chartier, Allison Cummings, Ron K. Brown, Menaka Thakkur, Mark Morris, Bill T. Jones, Lemi Ponifascio, Gerry Trentham, Bageshree Vaze and others. With over a 35 year career in the  Arts he has been a Guest Artist at the University of the West Indies (Mona) Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts,  University of Wisconsin – Madison and Northwestern University.  He  is on Faculty in the Dance Performance Department  of Centennial College and is an advocate for dance research, diverse training, arts education and community engagement. Kevin’s research and creative practice through his company’s technical approach to dance exists in a space of constant interrogation and navigation of Caribbean cultural nuances towards, a methodology of understanding space in creation, research, and presentation.


The Ontario Chalmers Fellowship recipient and KM Hunter Dance Award Nominee, Toronto Arts Council Cultural Leaders Fellow (2015) and Canada Council for the Arts’Victor Martyn Lynch – Staunton Award recipient in Dance (2014) for outstanding achievement by a mid career artist, Ormsby functions in many of areas of dance; from the creative practice to arts administration to advocacy, writing and education. As the Program Manager for Cultural Pluralism in the Arts Movement Ontario (CPAMO), he delivers programming for the professional and organizational development in the Arts. He is on the Boards of Dance Collection Danse, Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts and has served on the Boards of Canadian Dance Assembly, Prologue to the Performing Arts and Nia Centre for the Arts.
